Background Information PROFESSOR DR.CHAIYONG BRAHMAWONG |

Dr.Chaiyong Brahmawong was born in Roi-Et, Thailand in
1941. After completing Matayom Suksa 6 (10th Dr.Chaiyong had dreamed to be a teacher since his childhood. After passing the university entrance examination, he was admitted to the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn Univerity in 1960; thus fulfilling his long dream to be a teacher. He earned Bachelor of Education degree in Secondary Education (Teaching English and Mathematics) in 1964. While teaching English in Stree Pra Thuangwit School, a famous secondary school in Bangkok, he continued a graduate program and earned a M.Ed in Audio-Visual Education from the Department of Audio-Visual Education, Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University in 1966. After receiving his Master's degree, he took up a job as the Manager and Principal of Srisilapa Withayalai School in Roi-Et Province during 1966 and a teacher at Roi-Et Witthayalai School in 1967. In August 1967, he was awarded a Fulbright/Hayes Scholarship to the United States to pursue a Master's degree program in School Administration (1967-68) and a Doctorate program in Instructional Technology (1968-72) at the School of Education, University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. His advisor was the late Professor James D. Finn (1967-68), and Professor Herbert Miller (1968-72) The doctoral dissertation was "A Proposed Plan for Establishing an Educational Television Station for Open Universities in Thailand" under the supervision of Professor Robert Casey, dissertation advisor. During his study, he was a media coordinator at the Department of Teacher Education, School of Educator, University of Southern California (1968-72). Upon his return to Thailand in October 1972, he joined the Department of Audio-Visual Education under the Chairmanship of the late Professor Sampao Varangkura as an instructor and Chairman of Educational Technology Program. Here, he developed two innovative instructional approaches, namely (1) "Learning Center Classroom" Approach and (2) Chula Plan for Multi-media Package Production. These two innovations have later been incorporated as parts of teacher training curriculum in Thailand since 1983.While working at the Faculty of Education under the Deanship of the late In 1976, Dr.Chaiyong was a visiting lecturer at the Open University in Milton Keynes, England. Here, he was working at AV Media Research Group under Professor Tony Bates at the Institute of Educational Technology (IET) . In the same year, he joined a UNESCO consultant team under the late Mr. Herbert Marchl on the Communication Technologies for Education Project under EDPITAF, Ministry of Education in the Philippines. Upon his return to Thailand, he was appointed a member of the Planning Committee for Thailand's Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) under the chairmanship of Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-an, one of Thailand's most prominent educators. STOU which was established under the Royal Charter in September 5, 1978 and Dr. Chaiyong assumed the post of founding Director of the Office Educational Technology from 1979-1987, and Vice-President for Graduate Studies and Research (2001) and Vice President of Academic Affairs (2001-2). During 1987-1992, Dr.Chaiyong joined UNESCO/UNDP in various educational and training projects in Indonesia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Japan, Laos, India, Pakistan, and Bangaladesh. He also joined the National Institute for Multi-Media Education (NIME) in Chiba, Japan as an international scholar two times in 1988 and 1992. Dr.Chaiyong's contributions to education in Thailand include the development of (1) Chula Plan for Multi-Media Package Production, (2) Learning Center Classroom System, (3)STOU Plan for Distance Education of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, (4) SUT Plan for Borderless Education of Suranaree University of Technology in Korat Thailand, (5) EBA Plan for Experience-Based Learning Approach developed and tested at Bangkok Christian College and Kasem Pittaya School in Bangkok, and (6) On-Screen Interactive Instructional System for ICT-based education, and (7) Au-CIDE Plan for the Internet-based distance educational system at the College of Internet Distance Education, Assumption University of Thailand. One outstanding work of Dr.Chaiyong is the discovery of six Life Vitalis Theories (known in Thailand as LV theories) indicating that life is governed, controlled, and supported by a form of energy, more than 17 times faster than light). Without LV, life cannot exist either in physical states in the forms of animals, human-beings, plants) or spiritual states in the forms of Buddhas, Arahantas, Brahmas (Formless /Arupa or Form/Rupa), gods, goddesses, fairies, ghosts, giants, and various levels of inhabitats of hells). LV Theories shows how the mind works and assimilate themselves in the physical forms (bodies). Presently Dr.Chaiyong is a full professor and Chief Tchnology Officer of the College of Internet Distance Education, Assumption University of Thailand. He is a Founder and Advisor of the Association for Educational Technology in Thailand.
